Grants
Environmental
The Agua Fund’s environmental grantmaking supports organizations working at the national, regional and local levels to protect water resources, agricultural and forested landscapes, and biodiversity that benefit people and nature. Priority geographies include Virginia, Western Colorado and Indian Country. Our partners work with landowners, Tribal members, public agencies and local communities to advance sustainable water management and agriculture and forestry practices; honor Indigenous Knowledge; and lift up the historically underserved. Our grants also support member networks that advocate for durable policy solutions and leverage private and public sector capacity. As a member of the Chesapeake Bay Funders Network and the Sustainable Agriculture and Food Systems Funders, Agua collaborates with philanthropic partners to advance common goals around water quality and aquatic ecosystem protection, climate resilience, food security, public health, rural economic prosperity and environmental justice.
Social Services
The Agua Fund believes in the importance of helping disadvantaged older community members age with dignity and – where possible – age in place. Our general support grantmaking is predominantly focused in the District of Columbia with additional support for Native-led, Native-serving organizations. We fund organizations that provide advocacy and legal assistance, home health care services, and community support through senior villages. Agua also supports organizations providing access to healthy locally grown food for disadvantaged communities in the District and Virginia. Additionally, Agua supports work in the Shenandoah Valley to end domestic violence and support victims.
Civic Engagement and Democracy Protection
The Agua Fund’s mission includes a commitment to increasing the participation in public life of underrepresented groups and protecting voting rights. We provide general support grants primarily to state and local grassroots groups in Virginia, Pennsylvania and to Native-led partners working in Indian Country.
